Night at the A's and Practice

Hello everyone.
The Night at the A's is not going to work for either Sunday or the 30th. With us being gone for the tournament, our options are very limited.
We are going to shoot for Sunday August 3rd - a double header against Madison - same type of deal - show up around 11 AM for a 1 PM start. Please let me know if you can or cannot make it. If it ends up that we can't field a team for this date either, we just won't have a night there.
Also, there will be one practice next week in preparation for the Mosinee tournament. We will practice on Wednesday July 23 from 6-8 PM at Roosevelt park.

Upcoming Schedule

Hello everyone,
Here's the schedule for the upcoming weeks and Plymouth tournament and practices:
July 3 - game 6 PM at Kuehne Court vs Rattlers - be at park at 5:15.
July 8 - Practice 6-8 PM Vets North - Coach Johnson to run practice.
Plymouth Tournament Schedule - All games at Lions Park
First of all, I have to apologize as I will not be there for the first game. I am taking my son Trevor to the National Bowling Championships in Detroit next week. The bowling schedule was supposed to allow me to be back in time for Friday games, but Plymouth went and scheduled us for a Thursday night game. I thought about asking them to change it, but it is a game under the lights which is still a cool thing. Coach Johnson is more than capable of handling the team (and is 1-0 to boot)!
Thursday July 10 - 8 PM vs Plymouth Black - lower diamond (same one we've played on before) - be at park by 7:15
Saturday July 12 - 11 AM vs Rattlers - lower diamond - be at park at 10:15
Saturday July 12 - 6 PM vs Random Lake - be at park by 5:15
If by chance we happen to go 3-0, we would play another game on Sunday at 1 or 3 PM.
Additional Practices in preparation for Mosinee Tournament:
Tuesday July 15 - 6-8 PM - Vets North
Thursday July 17 - 6-8 PM - Horace Mann NE
And don't forget WEDNESDAY JULY 16th - NIGHT AT THE A's
Be at Wildwood Park by 5:15 p.m.
FULL UNIFORMS REQUIRED (Including CUPS!)
We will shag fly balls between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Our players will get introduced with an A's player.
2 Diamonds players as batboys per inning.
Players and Parents get to sit in the Skybox!
Pizza for the "Diamonds Players Only" is compliments of the A's.
We must purchase our own beverages.
No Gum or Sunflower Seeds in the Skybox
Any questions, please let me know!

Diamonds Update

Hello everyone,
Wow! Are we off to a great start or what? As great as it is to be 3-0, the results we see as coaches from the little things that our kids are willing to do to put it place at a game impresses us more than anything. I am very pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoying teaching this group of kids who really want to learn more about how baseball is really played.

For the next couple of weeks, there are some things that you need to be aware of as it relates to games, practices, etc.

Thursday May 29 - game at Oostburg Veterans Park. P&R at 4:45 or Vets Park by 5:05 - let me know if you are not meeting at the P&R

Following that game, I will be out of town until Sunday June 8th.

We will continue to have Saturday optional drop in practice at South High from 9-11 on May 31st and June 7th. However, Coach Aicher from the U11 Diamonds will be conducting these practices. Feel free to drop in and get some extra hitting and fielding practice with Coach A. Please check the 11 year old message instead of our message on the hotline (by pressing 22 instead of 44) for any updates due to weather or other cancellations.

On Monday June 2, we'll have our home opener. The game is at Kuehne Court and we ask that all the kids be at the park at 5:00 for warm-ups and batting practice. Coach Johnson will be running the team in my absence. We'll need some additional help on the bench and scorekeeping and please make sure you give Coach all the support you give me.

Thursday June 5, we will have MANDATORY practice at South High from 5-7. Coach Johnson will run this practice as well.

If you have any issues, please communicate them to me before Friday or feel free to call me on my cell phone while I am gone and I will pass them along to Coach Johnson as necessary.

GO DIAMONDS!

GREAT WIN - UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Sorry for the lateness of this update……
Well, another great comeback - never give up game by the boys last night. I think I'm getting more grey hair though :)
Tonight's practice is cancelled because I have to leave town for a business meeting today and I don't know if I will be back in time and Coach Johnson is also out of town on business.
Optional practice on Saturday at South High - 9 to 11 AM. If you come, please make sure you pick up your kids at 11 - I have to leave immediately.
Big "ROAD" game this Tuesday - we play the other Sheboygan team. I don't think we need to meet at the Park and Ride :) Game is at 6 PM at Kuehne Court - please make sure the kids are at the park at 5:00. I would like to get a little more extended batting practice in prior to the game.
Thursday game at Oostburg. We will meet at P&R at 5:00. Or be at the park by 5:15.
Any questions, give me a call!

EXCITEMENT!

Wow, what an exciting game last night! I can't say enough about how proud I am that the boys kept battling back when being down. That's a great quality to have in a team and will go a long way to making this a fun season. There's a lot of good things to take away from last nights game and of course a lot of things that we have to work on yet. And we will continue to get better and keep learning about how the game is to be played.

Make sure you check out our team web page on the Diamonds site - its got the highlights listed from the game!

Practice tonight - Vets Park North 5-7. See you there.

OPENING DAY IS HERE!

Just a quick update for tomorrow:
We will be leaving the Park and Ride by Home Depot at 4:40 sharp tomorrow (5/12). Forecast tomorrow is for temps in the low 50's, but no rain. Please wear the maroon jerseys with the full uniform (hat, pants, belt, socks) and wear something warm underneath the jersey. Remember, we cannot have white or gray sweatshirts on under those jerseys in case your child will pitch.
If you are not planning on meeting at the park and ride tomorrow, please let me know ahead of time so we are not waiting for you. In addition, please make sure you are at the park by 5:10 for warmups.
I have attached directions to the park in Random Lake in this e-mail in case you aren't meeting us at the P&R. Otherwise, I'll have copies of the map there.
Looking forward to a great opening day!
Keith

Diamonds Gear Exchange and Upcoming Scrimmage

Announcing
The Sheboygan Diamonds Baseball Gear Exchange
Did your Diamonds Baseball Player suddenly out-grow that pair of shoes that you bought LAST MONTH?! Is his bat suddenly too short or light? Has his hand out-grown his glove? The Sheboygan Diamonds Baseball Gear Exchange is a way for you to advertise your old baseball equipment for sale or put out an equipment wanted notice.
Look for the Baseball Equipment Exchange logo in the Menu list on the left hand side of the Diamonds Home Page. Click on the logo to go the Gear Exchange web page for instructions and equipment listings.
Questions? Send an e-mail to DiamondsGear@inbox.com

This Thursday we will be scrimmaging the U11 team at Kuehne Court from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. I need the kids at the park by 5:30 so we can warm up, go through pregame drills and be ready to go by 6. This will be full dress rehearsal - we're going to wear our uniforms even though they're not. Hat, Jersey, pants, socks, belt. It's supposed to be cool on Thursday, so I recommend a warm sweatshirt, turtleneck, etc under the jersey, as long as its not white or gray. If it is, they will not be able pitch as that is illegal.
Parents are welcome to come and watch.
See you Thursday!

Game Schedule

Hello parents,

Here is the game schedule for our team. Our first game is Monday May 12th at Random Lake. We're going to need a lot of work to be ready by then! There really isn't much rhyme or reason to the schedule - most of it depended on field availability. Its not too bad - we 'll probably be baseballed out with the HG tournament June 20-22 and 3 games immediately following that, but we do finish with a 5 game homestand!

All home games field locations are yet to be determined - I will get those on the website as soon as they become available. Also, even though we have no games after July 3, we will continue to practice or scrimmage other teams (hopefully on our normal practice schedule) in preparation for the Plymouth and Mosinee tournaments and the Lakeshore League playoffs.

Also, our "Night at the A's" has been scheduled for Wednesday July 16. That night we will field batting practice for the A's and be introduced with the starting lineups.

If you have any dates you can't make let me know ASAP. See you all at practice on Thursday 5-7 PM at Vets Park.

Thanks!
Keith

Diamonds Notes

Hello parents,
Contrary to popular belief, I do not eat, breathe and sleep Diamonds Baseball. However, Saturday I think I did since I smelled like a brat even after 2 showers. :)
I just wanted to document a few things based on the discussions of yesterday's parent meeting and some expectations now that we're starting the season. Hopefully I won't get too long winded (good luck with that).
1) MANDATORY practices will be held on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 5-7 PM until we start playing games. If these do not work into your schedule, please call me so we can discuss the issues and come up with a solution that works. School functions such as band concerts, awards ceremonies, church functions, etc will always take precedence over Diamonds. I just ask that if you are going to miss a practice for one of those reasons, you call me ahead of time to let me know. If you don't show up for practice and don't call, I can only assume the absence to be unexcused and that will factor highly into playing time. We will only have 7-8 practices before our first game so it will be imperative that we work hard at making practice. If you're going to be gone on vacation sometime during the summer, please let me know those things as far ahead of time as possible. If you need to reach me, you can e-mail me at this e-mail address, or at kyonan9016@charter.net or you can call me at home 459-9016, work 208-4010, cell 980-4752.
2) Practice for this week will be at Vets Park on Union Avenue. Due to having to attend the scheduling meeting, we will have an abbreviated session from 4-5:30 on Tuesday April 22nd, and a normal practice from 5-7 on Thursday April 24th. Next week we will be able to get permits, so future practice locations will be determined as we go. Please make sure you are on time - straggling in at 5 minutes after just does not work.
3) Optional practices. The following dates and times I will be available for additional instruction and batting practice, etc. If you are missing a weekday practice for any reason, it is suggested that you come to that weekend's session to keep up. These practices will be held in the South High softball area unless otherwise changed.
Saturday April 26th 3-5 PM
Saturday May 10 9-12 AM
Saturday May 17 9-12 AM
Saturday May 24 9-11 AM
4) Practice attire: Please have the boys wear or at least bring along undersleeved garments to protect their arms during this weird weather season. I also recommend sweatshirts etc - you never know when the wind will shift. Also cups are required - no cup - no practice. Players must also wear long pants (sweat or baseball) for practice - shorts will not be allowed. Players should also plan on wearing some sort of cleats to practice. And to foster team unity and show people who we are, Diamonds caps must be worn to practice.
5) From here on out, I may not have time to send an e-mail indicating if practice is cancelled due to weather. Please use the diamonds hotline going forward 467-0252 and press 44 to hear my message about where practice/games are and any cancellations. Do not play with the answering machine by pressing other numbers - it could delete another team's message. I will also try to put any cancellations on my blog on the website, but more likely than not the hotline will be your main source of information. By the way - check out our team picture on the website! Now we look like a team!
6) For games, full uniform attire must be worn. Red jersey, pants, belt, socks, hat. If we decide to wear the other sleeveless jersey you were issued, I will let you know that ahead of time. Do not wear white long sleeved shirts under your jersey. If you do that, you cannot pitch with that on and if its cold, you cannot pitch without a long sleeve undergarment on. Players not in full uniform will not be allowed to play.
7) Make sure players bring water bottles or sports drinks with them to practice and games, especially when its hot. There will be no eating during practices.
8) Game schedule will be determined tomorrow night. I will send it to you on Wednesday and publish it on the website. Home field locations are yet to be determined but will most likely be either Horace Mann, Kuehne Court or Field of Dreams. There should be 7 home games and 7 away games. Our opponents for travel will be from Sheboygan Falls, Kiel, Howards Grove, Oostburg, Port Washington, Kohler, Random Lake, Plymouth (3 teams) and Sheboygan (1 other team besides us). We will meet at a general location in case anyone needs to carpool or needs a ride for their child if they cannot make the away game.
9) If your child gets injured (during baseball or otherwise), please report it to me as soon as possible. Unless its absolutely impossible, I still expect injured players to attend practice to listen and watch what is going on.
10) Playing time is not guaranteed. I've never had a problem and have always played every player on my team every game. However, I will tell you right up front - the kids who come to practice and work harder will play more. As far as playing different positions - I will put the kids in positions where they and the team will succeed. If someone can't grasp the mechanics of pitching, obviously, we'er not going to put them there. If you have any issues with playing time or anything else, please make sure you discuss it with me before it festers into something bigger. I will be up .front with you if you are with me and I prefer talking it out with each other rather than it be discussed behind my back. This summer will be an absolutely positive experience for both you and your child if we work together.
11) I will have rules that the kids will abide by when we're practicing and in games. I will lay that out for them tomorrow at practice.
Well, ok - it did get long winded, but if anyone has any questions about this, please let me know.

Diamond Notes

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to touch base (wow - a bad baseball pun) on the current practice schedule, upcoming brat fry, uniform distribution, game schedules and our Summer baseball getaway to Mosinee.

1) We will resume practice this Wednesday April 2nd from 5-7 PM at Pigeon River. This will continue on Wednesday April 9 and 16 as well.
2) Saturday April 5th will be our first opportunity to use the open gym at North High from 1:30-3:00 PM. We wil have some batting cages set up and be running some additional drills as well. Unfortunately I will be out of town this weekend, but our head assistant coach Brad Johnson will be there to oversee practice. We will also be able to use the gym on Saturday April 12th and 19th too (and I realize we have the fry on the 19th, but I will sneak out of the fry during that time - any players who are at the fry can ride with me over to practice).
Again, at this time, Wednesday and Saturday practices will still be OPTIONAL.
3) Brat fry Saturday April 19th. All shifts have been posted - please be on time for your scheduled shift. Also, players should come along as they will be making annoucements in the store as well as helping where they can.
4) Final uniform distribution and picture taking has been scheduled at the Blue Line Ice Arena on Sunday April 20th. Our scheduled time is at 1:30 PM. At that time, you will be responsible for your final payment of $75 and to sign up for the summer A's concession stand schedule. We will also take a team photo and individual photo packages will be available for purchase. Players should wear shorts and t-shirts to make uniform fitting easier. Also, each family will be responsible to sign up for two shifts which is pretty minor this year compared to years past. If you and your spouse sign up for one night, you'll be done! You must make final payment and sign up for the concession stand before your child will be issued his uniform. Concession stand scheduling will be done on a first come first serve basis. In addition, here are the following dates that we are responsible for manning the conession stand so bring your calendar and prepare accordingly:
Saturday 4/26 between 11 and 3
Friday 6/27 7-10:30
Monday 7/14 7:30-10:30
Wednesday 7/16 7:30-10:30
Wednesday 7/30 7-10:30
Sunday 8/3 12:30-3:00
5) Also, immediately following team pictures on Sunday April 20th, we will have a very brief parent meeting. At this time we will discuss the outdoor MANDATORY practice schedule and any other issues you feel are pressing. I am flexible, so I will let you vote on what you would like and it will be majority rules. Choices are:
Monday and Wednesday 5-7 PM
Monday and Thursdays 5-7 PM
Tuesday and Thursdays 5-7 PM.
(FYI - I will be running OPTIONAL Saturday practices from 9-12 as well for extra hitting, fielding, etc).
6) The Lakeshore League game scheduling meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 22nd. All we know at this point is that we will be playing 14 leagues games, games will start after May 12th and finish by July 12th with July14th-18th to be used for rainout makeups. Playoffs will be on July 22 and 23rd. There is no set schedule for days of the week that games will be played - they are more dependent upon teams field availability. We could play Monday and Tuesday one week, Wednesday and Thursday the next - we'll just have to take a wait and see approach.
7) Finally, you've all seen the e-mail from Julie Versey our team parent. Sentiment is running pretty well for staying at the WaterPark and this should be a nice vacation with some baseball wrapped in there as well. I've already booked my room and am looking forward to it!

Any questions, please let me know!

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Hello again everyone,

We have secured some extra practice time at North High for the following Saturdays:

April 5, 12, 19 from 1:30 -3:00 in the Raider Gym.

We will be running throwing, fielding, and hitting drills during that time and sharing the gym with 3 other Diamonds teams. I will not be at practice on the 5th, but Coach Johnson will run our practice for us.

As usual, these practices are optional. However, we are getting close to the time that when we go outside for practice, those practices will be mandatory. Everything is dependent on the weather, but we're hopefully shooting for the week of April 21st to be outside.

Spring Training Back ON!

Hello everyone,
Spring Training is Back On!

After last night's Diamonds board meeting, we came up with a plan that will allow us to keep practicing until the snow melts (ok - I'm being hopeful on that) - this will actually take us until the middle of April.

We will start practicing indoors at Pigeon River School on Wednesday nights from 5-7 in the gym. Please continue to wear cups and tennis shoes and bring bats and most definitly your baseball gloves as we will start doing throwing and fielding drills.

Here are the dates that we will be practicing:
March 19th
April 2nd
April 9th
April 16th.
There will be no practices during spring break.

We are also looking at a few Saturday afternoons in April (the 5th, 12th, and 19th) to use the high school's indoor batting cages. More details will follow on this.

As usual, these next 4 Wednesday indoor practices are optional.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or drop me an e-mail.
Hope to see you all at Pigeon River in the next 5 weeks!

Hitting Facility Leased

Hello everyone,
I have some bad news to report. The owner of the hitting facility (who was kind enough to let us use it for free while it was empty) has leased out the building effectivie Monday.
Therefore, our last scheduled practice until further notice will be tonight, Thursday March 6th from 5-6:30 PM.
The Diamonds board is meeting on Monday night to discuss other options and what we might do until the snow melts. I will keep you informed as more details become available.
Please tell your kids that even though hitting practice is being suspended, there are still things they I have told them that they can do in a mirror or in the basement that will keep them remembering what we've taught them.

See you then!

Hello Players and Parents,

Sorry for not "blogging" sooner. Its been a little hectic in the Yonan household these days. Just a bit of advice for everyone - snowboarding is not fun, unless you consider broken clavicles "fun".

For those of you who attended the Tony Dello clinic this past weekend, I think it was a worthwhile experience and I hope all of you learned something. And understand why when we have regular practices we try to teach the same things.

Other Diamonds notes:
  • If you haven't picked up your pre-sale brat fry tickets or signed up for your time to work at the fry on April 19th, please contact our team mom Julie Versey as soon as possible - julieversey@yahoo.com. Please hang onto the money you collect for your tickets and bring it with you on the day of the fry. If you need extra tickets, please let me know.
  • The Lakeshore League scheduling meeting is set for March 25th. Hopefully after that we will have a better plan on regular season games.
  • Sunday April 13th will be uniform distribution date. At that time, your final payment of $75 will be due (if you have not made full payment). In order to receive your uniform at that time, you must sign up for your A's concession stand times first at this time, so please bring your calendars along. We will also have a brief parent meeting at this time to discuss outdoor practice schedules.

Our next scheduled practice is Thursday February 28th from 5-6:30 at the hitting facility.

Monday, February 18, 2008

Hello everyone,
I received a call from the Howards Grove Tournament Organizers this past weekend and they have indicated that the tournament dates have been moved to June 20-22 instead of the 27-29 originally indicated. Please change your schedules accordingly.
Sorry for any inconveniences, but at least we know far enough in advance!

Also, here's to getting back at it after our cancellation last week -optional practice tonight Monday February 18th from 4-5:30. Please be careful in the parking lot with all the ice.

In addition to all the instuctional skills you are learning as part of the 11/12 year old team, we also are going to provide some additional benefits. Although there are no guarantees that you will play on our state league teams, we are going to roster all of you on the WSL teams in case they have shortages of players. As your skills improve and Coach Aicher or Coach Fenner call me for potential "call ups", I will recommend getting some of you up there.

In order to facilitate this and get you on the roster, I will need to have birth certificates on file, report cards from your last grading period and a WSL registration form filled out. I will be e-mailing you this information and you can either drop off the forms or scan them on the computer and send them to me electronically.

Update

Hello again everyone,

Just a quick note (as if I can write one of those :) to update you on some things:

1) Winter work out schedules have been determined. We will have open drop in (optional) for hitting practice on Mondays from 4-5:30 and Thursdays from 5-6:30. The hitting facility is located at 4315 South Taylor Drive. Next to MEE Material Handling, south end of building. This is south of Wal Mart on Taylor Drive. Please note that the first open practice time will be THURSDAY JANUARY 31st at 5:00. Then we will fall into the normal Monday-Thursday routine. I will need some coaching help - so if you're interested, please let me know ahead of time.Notes: If you are planning on coming to these sessions, please make sure you use your bathroom before coming as the port-o-potty has not yet been delivered. In addition, it is somewhat cold in the facility so I recommend wearing sweatpants, a sweatshirt and batting gloves if you have them. Cups are also required or kids will not be able to participate. Do not wear spikes - please wear tennis or gym shoes.

2) From now on, please check the hotline 467-0252 for updates/cancellations. When the phone picks up and the general message begins playing, please press 44 to listen to our team message. Please do not press any other buttons as it can cause havoc with the answering machine. If you cannot get through to the hotline, you can also check Coach Yonan's blog on the webpage (http://www.sheboyganbaseball.org/diamonds/index.html) and then choose the U11/12 Home Page and then Coach Yonan's Blog. (The practice schedule and other important info is also posted on our website).

3) For those of you still wanting to order clothing, the deadline is January 31st. If you order by then, we can guarantee delivery prior to the season openers. Although we will open up the clothing sale again at uniform distribution in April, delivery is usually a little sketchy at that point. I have attached clothing forms to this email. If you can't open the documents, go to the webpage and open them there.

4) If you're interested in the Dello Clinic, remember that deadline for signup is Feb 12th.

As usual, any questions, please let me know.

Keith
